Get Stoked

“Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance. Great dancers are great because of their passion.”
~ Martha Graham

StokedI’ve heard many variations on how to define your life purpose, including listing what gets you excited, what do you love to do, listing ways you could be of service to others, and many more, yet none of these really hit the mark. Then, one day, someone suggested that I should envision that I had just won the lottery – PowerBall or MegaMillions. I was the sole winner of one of the largest jackpots ever, winning hundreds of millions of dollars. I could easily hire staff to clean my house, cook the meals, to do all my errands. I could quit my job, if I wanted.

Next, I needed to imagine how I would spend my days. Imagine being on a yacht in the tropics, day after day. Imagine relaxing and/or seeing the sights day after day, for months on end. Maybe this sounds like the ultimate life to you, but for me, it sounded fun for a short period, then got boring. So, next I had to explore what would really get me excited about getting out of bed every morning.

From a place where I had sufficient funds to hire expert staff in whatever skills might be needed, I could orchestrate anything. A friend of mine has been helping women in Kenya to establish small businesses and become self-sufficient. Being a techie, my thoughts turned to how technology could be used to benefit others. One of my dreams is to establish a non-profit organization that would be a proponent for safe roads for motorcyclists. Many of the roads in this area have potholes, or cracks wide enough that a motorcycle tire could fall in, and who knows what might happen. Also, I really love guiding others to realize their greatness. Writing these posts is one way I serve you and others in this way.

The question to ask yourself is: “What gets you stoked? What makes you excited to get up in the morning and to get moving?” Then, take small steps to do a small something each day. Five minutes is enough to offset an otherwise boring day. Focus on feeling excited, and everything else will fall into place.

By feeling stoked, beyond simple excitement, you are sending that vibration out into our Divine Universe, and it will always respond in kind.
