“There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of the people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will have truly defeated age.”
~ Sophia Loren
My story starts when I turned 41. While I was still 40, I decided to give myself that year, and then I’d start counting backwards. So, on my 41st birthday, I declared that I was 39. After a couple of years later, I said to myself, “this is silly, I can admit my age.” Instantly, overnight, I had less energy, I saw more wrinkles on my face, and I felt more aches and pains. So, I said, “This is for the birds. I’m going to keep counting backwards.” My energy returned and I saw less wrinkles.
I kept counting backwards each year until I reached 33. At that point, I was really 47, and the difference seemed almost too great to accept. My first time at 33 was a great year for me, so I decided that I’d be a perpetual 33 years old … in my mind. About 6 years later, I was going thru the menopausal change, and every time I’d focus on being 33, I’d get another period. So, I realized that to be done with that phase of my life, I needed to shift my thinking to an age where the change would be done with. I picked 44 (I like duplicating numbers) and voila, this worked. I still have ample energy, and most who meet me think I’m years younger than the years I’ve been on this planet.
Rhonda Byrne, the creator of The Secret, shares in the director’s commentary, that everyone in the movie is actually about 10 years older than they look, backing this with a statement that she saw their W2-forms that contained their birthdate.
The real fountain of youth is thinking you are young and full of energy. So, decide today, how young you desire to feel, and declare it now!
